my store NewNeedlepoint.com
I have changed the title of this *store page*. NewNeedlepoint.com is no longer a new store. I have been open for one year now.
My original idea was to liberate the art of Needlepoint from the 19th century mind-set that seems to dictate the same colors and designs over and over (and over). I thought of it as dragging Needlepoint into the 21st century.
It was and is a good idea but things have not worked out exactly as I imagined they would. I have changed direction several times in this last year. To paraphrase what someone said in a post to my blog “it is interesting watching you find your niche” or something like that
That is exactly what I am doing. My own designs were not a success so I added some carefully chosen handpainted canvases from other designers. I tried to stay away from the mainstream and popular designers and find interesting work by up and coming designers.
I expanded my tools collection and added a few counted thread charts from Patt & Lee Designs
The biggest change, the elephant in the room (or on the web site) is my out-of-print and hard to find books categories. I started with just a few books in one category. Now I have 2 full categories and more books and another category on the way.
I like finding and selling these books but I do not want NewNeedlepoint.com to become just a needlework book site.
If you found this, you also found my silly little blog. The blog is supposed to be marketing my store but I mostly just blabb, blabb, blabb. Sometimes I even talk about needlepoint.
Now, going into my second year, I remain hopeful.
Below is a sampling of my own needlepoint, done before I opened my web store & blog. Back when I still had time to stitch for pleasure. As you can see, I am a plain stitcher who loves color. I have since had to learn the decorative stitches popular today to stay in the mainstream and create stitch guides etc.
Welcome to Needlepoint in the 21st Century & NewNeedlepoint.com.
